Reasoning vs. Overthinking

In my first career, I would plan, analyze and reason my way to solutions. This method of working brought results. But today, at the drawing table, it leads me to overthink. I go around in circles. My expectations get in the way when drawing.

The solution? Give this kind of thinking it’s own place.

This blog journal is where I’ll write about learning to illustrate later in life, about writing-illustrating my first book, and about related topics that interest and (hopefully) propel me forward. I’ll also share my sketches, experiments and process as the book takes shape.

So when I draw, I can let it flow without too much forcing or pushing it. I’ve set my intention. I’m excited about achieving a result. I’m freer now to draw and respond. And an interesting thing happens in the process — I improve my chances of recognizing connections, of finding solutions.
