What you decide to show is never about reality

The thing about drawing is — what you decide to show is never about reality.
Like this bookshop in Friday Harbor — imagined. I traveled to the San Juan Islands recently (to climb a giant tree for my birthday). Stopped into the lovely second hand bookstore, Serendipity Books. It looks nothing like my drawings here. The inside, maybe a touch.
This drawing is about experiences and feelings remembered.
And then, the drawing seems to breathe out my inner world.
It’s been a good week for reading.
Walks listening to The Last Devil to Die: A Thursday Murder Club Mystery (Richard Osman, narrated — deliciously — by Fiona Shaw).
And the books on my bedstead —
Poached: Inside the Dark World of Wildlife Trafficking (Rachel Love Nuwer)
LifeScapes: A Biographer’s Search for the Soul (Ann Roe)
Mammals: An Explore your World Handbook. (The Discovery Channel)
Is it any wonder this showed up . . . ?

Used bookstores and libraries are my thing....LOVE your drawings this week.
